The Del Amo Grade Separation Overhead is a new single-span, precast bulb-tee-girder bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway and completed a missing link in the City of Torrance between Crenshaw Boulevard and Maple Avenue. The overall project included the new bridge overhead, mechanically stabilized embankment (MSE) walls, and various utility work, sidewalks and asphalt pavement, and provided an additional east-west route through the City with a four-lane divided highway.

Athalye services included but not limited to resolving complex issues of grading the bridge deck, reviewing associated bridge deck and railroad shoring system submittals, and providing off-site inspection at the precast girder casting yard to ensure compliance with the quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) plans. The geometry of the bridge deck was challenging due to its crown, high skew, vertical curve, camber, beam deflections, and multiple horizontal curves and variable width.
