The Athalye Team was awarded this high visibility project to provide professional and technical construction inspection & engineering services for the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge Project. Our Segments included the Skyway, South-South Detour (SSD), and Yerba Buena Island Transition Structures (YBITS).

The Skyway Project was completed and the Precast Segmental bridge that had many unique features for the high seismic zone including modular joints 20 Hinge Pipe Beams (HPBs) formed from 4 inch thick HPS 70W plate designed to withstand earthquake, traffic and thermal forces, and two steel orthotropic box girders (OBGs).

The SSD was one of the most critical projects along the SFOBB corridor consisting of three major segments: the East Tie-In (ETI), Viaduct, and West Tie-In (WTI). This project was required to maintain traffic flow (over 280,000 vehicles per day) on a temporary viaduct, demolish a portion of the existing structure and allow for the timely completion of the Yerba Buena Island Transition Structures contract (YBITS
